Don Rogers statue in Swindon – gaussian splat

The statue of Don Rogers you see below is an excellent piece of public art located next to the Swindon Town football stadium. Unveiled in 2024 it is the work of Alan Beattie Merriott for members of the Swindon Town Supporters Trust and commemorates Don Rogers famous kick that helped seal a 3-1 win over Arsenal to take home the League Cup in 1969. And what you see below isn’t just a photo, it’s a whole gaussian splat 3D scan hosted on SuperSplat – so you can navigate around it just by using your mouse or touchscreen (click here for the SuperSplat page).

The gaussian splat was created by Kiri Engine using reframed and dewarped footage from 8k Insta360 video taken with an X4 camera. Due to filming the video from ground level with a selfie stick the splat is best viewed from low level. It isn’t downloadable but is made available on SuperSplat for general viewing in the hope you will go and visit this amazing piece of soccer-related public art. And, of course, to hopefully inspire more people to start making and sharing gaussian splats.
