Witnie the Witch

Is it really Halloween again! If you’re reading this then hopefully it is, or at least approaching so fast that you’re looking for something spooky to 3D print. And if so what could be more spooky on All Hallows Eve than a good, old fashioned, witch. But don’t be scared, Witnie the Witch is a kind soul and has zero tolerance for any evil goings on – so she’ll help keep you safe on the spookiest day of the year! And best of all, you can 3D print her using the (non-commercial licence) STL files on Thingiverse or Thangs3D, and spookily you should even be able to do it without supports on your fused-filament printer.

If you’re interested in how Witnie the Witch was designed, she was first created in Nomad Sculpt (see below) and then finished off in Blender. I used eight different sculpted parts that were intended to allow the whole model to be printed without any support material with fused-filament machines, although that means some parts need printing upside down. Apart from the broomstick, which includes some tabs at the base for stability during printing (and which need removing) that goal was achieved. So there’s no need for excessive cutting and sanding – you just need to file edges if the fit is a bit too tight.

And for real fans of Witnie the Witch, you’ll be pleased to hear that she’s been immortalised in her very own spooky rhyme – The Ballad of Witnie the (discontented) Witch. And if you’re mad enough to want to know how it goes then you’ll find it below!

The Ballad of Witnie the (discontented) Witch

Witnie was a very nice witch,
never found drunk in a ditch,
but she had a little pet itch,
she didn’t like being called a *i*c*!

For Witnie Halloween goes against the grain,
so over some very rough terrain,
often walking in cold and driving rain,
Witnie went to London to complain!

Witnie said “this isn’t the way for me,
I want to live the life care free,
so at Halloween you won’t see me,
cos I’m off on holiday to the sea!”

And that’s it for this post, so get your sweets and chocolates ready as I’m off for a bit of trick or treat-ing 🙂
