This is a gaussian splat of the old lock keepers cottage at Cardiff Bay in South Wales. According to the Wikimedia Commons it’s a Grade II listed building also known as Locky’s Cottage. And since being built in Victorian Times (according to the British Listed Buildings website between 1868 and 1874) it’s had a number of extra uses including a workmens hut and a cafe, although now it seems to sit unused. You can find it in Brittania Park midway between Cardiff Bay and Roath Basin. And what you see below isn’t just a photo, it’s a whole gaussian splat 3D scan hosted on SuperSplat – so you can navigate around it just by using your mouse or touchscreen (click here for the SuperSplat page).
Quick summary of this 3D creation
Overview: A 3D gaussian splat of a victorian lock keepers cottage.
Location: Cardiff Bay, South Wales [map].
Date/era: Victorian.
Software used: KiriEngine.
Intended use: Computer graphics.
Download (CC BY 4.0 license): SuperSplat.
The gaussian splat was created by Kiri Engine using 4k video taken with a Google Pixel 8 Pro phone camera on a pole. Unfortunately the sunny weather meant the back and one side were in harsh shadow. But while it’s not a perfect splat, and is best viewed from below roof level, it hopefully gives you a good idea of how nice it is as a part of the local heritage at Cardiff Bay 🙂
